If as a chiropractor you provide treatment for a large number of children who have been physically and sexually abused over a period of time something unexpected becomes very apparent…..
There may be 50 children but there are essentially only 2 or 3 problems – that is to say everyone has the same issues.
Smaller children who have been beaten have neck injuries, headaches and neck pain. Any blow to the skull will tend to damage the upper spinal column.
Kids who have been sexually assaulted tend to have mid back pain and lower back pain – back pain resulting  from extreme tightness and tenderness through their mid and lower backs. This is caused not by injury but by stress … And they all have it.
The other group are Kids who have been brought up in extreme poverty and neglect. These kids can have just about everything conceivably wrong with them physically. Every inch of them hurts and that’s usually just for starters.
For lucky us this serves as a reminder that back pain, and neck pain are not always just straight forward injuries. Nor are they often merely attributable to a single cause like bad posture. They are a bi-product of the life we lead in its entirety.
Often understanding our pain and finding long term solutions means having someone with experience look not only at our physical pain but also at our lifestyle and our life situation.
